The sun is out more, the flowers are blooming… and we’re all desperately trying to decide what to wear (hat or no hat?) to the celebrations for our nearest & dearest.
Wedding season is fast approaching – for some it’s already here – and whether it’s your big day or you’re looking forward to celebrating someone close, you are likely already be thinking about how you can look your best for the event….
But it’s not just heel heights and cravat colours we’re trying to decide- it’s how to look and feel your best in your skin. With that part at least, we can help (although we do love a hat at a wedding!). Skin prep and beauty treatments should be planned well in advance for any big event, so it is – dare we say it- even more important than the clothes…
👉 Introducing new products or treatments requires a little downtime afterwards, to give your skin time to settle. Sometimes new ingredients can take a while to get used to, and anti-wrinkle treatments and fillers need time to heal to show you at your very best.
How far in advance should you be thinking of getting yourself prepped and glowing?
The sooner you can get started on beauty prep, the better. Just like with final tweaks on a dress or suit, you may well need more than one fitting. Our treatments differ slightly in terms of how long they take to show their full, glorious effects, and how long you need to take a little extra care afterwards.
With any skincare or treatment, it is important to leave enough time for your skin to settle afterwards, whether it’s a new serum, exfoliator or tweakment, you don’t want to be worrying about irritation or marks on the day.
So how much time should you leave before your event to get Botox, Dermal Fillers or Radiosurgery?
When preparing for a big event, be it a beautiful holiday or a special occasion like a wedding, we all like to plan a little in advance…
But when planning your beauty treatments, like Botox, Dermal Fillers or Radiosurgery, it’s important to leave enough time for the full effects to appear, and your skin to heal.
Botox
Although in terms of appointment time, this is a relatively quick procedure, it takes around 2 weeks for the full effects to show with Botox, so the results are not instant. At The Clinic, we suggest you schedule your last treatment appointment at least one month or 5 weeks before the event in order to see the best results possible, and ensure you are absolutely over the moon and ready to party 🍾 This gives the usual 2 week period for it to full effect, and allow a little extra buffer in case anything needs a slight tweak. Results last around three to five months, so if you’re starting a year or in advance, keep in mind you will need to plan around some top-up appointments. The nice thing about this, though, is you can start really small with amounts, and give yourself plenty of time to build up to your perfect look.
If you’re completely new to Botox, it’s always a good idea to give it a little longer, ideally 6 months or more prior to any big event like a wedding. This allows time for a few sessions of smaller treatments, and gives you time to get comfortable with how it looks and feels. It’s also worth noting if you want to smooth out much deeper wrinkles, it will take more than one session to treat and settle.
Dermal Fillers
Results are much faster with fillers, and can be seen soon after treatment, and continue to improve over the next 2-4 weeks. They also last a lot longer than Botox, though exact times depend on the type of filler and where on the body they are used, but think anywhere from one year rather than a few months. For that reason, it’s important to come in for this treatment with even more time than Botox. We suggest having your first filler appointment as soon as you know you have a big event coming– for example, as soon as you get engaged. This can be anywhere from 6 to 18 months in advance, or longer. Again, this allows plenty of time to get used to how the dermal fillers look and feel for you, and leaves time for any final top-ups the month or two before any big event.
Swelling is common with fillers, so leaving yourself time for the skin to settle is important, and much like Botox you want to keep upright for 4 to 6 hours post treatment (no lying down or impressive yoga headstands!) to give the fluid time to settle where it’s wanted. Bruising is also more likely with dermal fillers, so make sure you don’t apply any pressure to the treated areas, steering clear of massages and even face rollers for a week or so.
Radiosurgery
As this procedure involves removing rather than adding, it takes a little longer to heal. This treatment is typically used for mole or skin tag removal, so will leave a small wound that will need time and care to scab over and heal nicely.
In most cases, any dressings can be removed after 3 or 4 days, to allow the area to heal. Most scabs will then naturally fall off in 2 to 4 weeks. You may see a small red or pink mark which typically fades over time, usually the next 12 months. This treatments will need the most time afterwards to settle and heal, so it is important to consider booking your Radiosurgery treatments at least 6 months prior to any big event, if not longer. Healing time varies for each person, and you want to ensure you are absolutely happy and healed well in advance. After all, the whole point is for you feel your best!
All treatments will require some time to heal and show their full effects for you.
All treatments, especially Radiosurgery, require some time afterwards where it is best to avoid wearing makeup, to ensure nothing contaminates the treated areas while they heal. So do bear this in mind when planning social activities afterwards, especially if it is in the run up to any exciting events!
